On July 5, Beijing time, 40-year-old Garrett Temple officially announced his retirement, ending a 16-year NBA playing career. According to renowned reporter Stein, he will join the Dallas Mavericks as a coach, beginning a new chapter in coaching.
Temple went undrafted in the 2009 NBA Draft but persevered to play 16 seasons in the league, bouncing among 12 teams: the Rockets, Kings, Spurs, Bucks, Hornets, Wizards, Grizzlies, Clippers, Bulls, Pelicans, Nets, and Raptors. He established himself with solid defensive fundamentals and a professional attitude, widely recognized as a locker room leader.
Throughout his career, Temple appeared in 826 regular-season games, starting 198 of them, averaging 6.1 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 0.8 steals per game, with shooting percentages of 41.8% from the field and 35.6% from three-point range.
Although he never made an All-Star team or an All-NBA selection, Temple was consistently respected across the league for his outstanding professionalism and team leadership.
